On behalf of the Government, the Minister of Economy and Public Finance, Marcelo Montenegro, ruled out the payment of the second Christmas bonus for 2021 because the growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) did not exceed 4.5% as required by law.
“It is clear that in this administration it will not be possible to pay the double bonus,” said the Minister of Economy and Public Finance, Marcelo Montenegro, on Wednesday afternoon.
The authority explained that growth between July 2020 and June 2021 averaged 1.43, well below the 4.5% that is the basis for calculating profit.
The second bonus is a benefit that is paid to workers in the public and private sectors when GDP growth is above 4.5%.
This percentage is obtained from the growth calculation between July of one year to June of the next, in this case from July 2020 to June 2021.
