The first planet outside of this galaxy would have been found by NASA

The vastness of the galaxy is constantly in discovery and NASA published that it may have first discovered signs of a planet in transit with a star outside the Milky Way.

This was possible with the Lightning Observatory X Chandra from NASA and it is important as it opens a new window to search for exoplanets at greater distances than those recorded so far.

This possible exoplanet was found in the spiral galaxyl Messier 51 (M51), which is also called Galaxia Whirlpool, which translates ‘Whirlpool’ in Spanish, due to its distinctive profile.

What are exoplanets?

This is the name given to the planets that are outside of our Solar System, and so far astronomers have found all the other known exoplanets and exoplanet candidates in the Milky Way galaxy, nearly all within about 3,000 light-years of Earth.

Therefore uAn exoplanet in M51 would be about 28 million light years away, which means that it would be thousands of times farther than those of the Milky Way, explained NASA.
