Open to the public free of charge for 10 days in January, the Biobío International Book Fair returns with more than 100 programmed activities, 100 exhibitors, 200 publishing labels and more than 80 authors. A second version that seeks to be a meeting for dialogue, reflection and literary creation that grows, both in days and in programming, due to the success of the initial version and the need to have meeting and development spaces for culture and citizenship.
The FILB program is already available on its website https://www.filbiobio.cl/ and on this occasion, it will offer a diverse programmatic offer that will be divided into three areas: the first, the literature area, national and universal novels. The second, the university publishing area, and the third, the children’s area and graphic narrative and illustration.
The inaugural talk of the Fair will be given by the writer and novelist Hernán Rivera Letelier, recently named the 2022 Literature Award. Along with him, among the prominent authors for this version are; Rosabetty Muñoz, resident poet of the Gonzalo Rojas Chair at the University of Concepción; Manuela Rodríguez, co-founder of editorial Kalandraka, from Spain; Jorge Volpi, Mexican writer, Alfaguara Award winner, Gabriel Salazar Vergara, historian and philosopher, National History Award 2006, among others.
As commented by the Regional Governor of Biobío, Rodrigo Diaz, “the FILB has the support and financing of the regional government because it is an event that not only involves intellectuals, but also brings culture, knowledge and literature closer to the community and is also a platform and showcase for local publishers, labels and authors. It is also an event that provides work for many people, not only those who work at the fair, but also the entire production chain present. It is part of a commitment to culture and regional identity, as are the promotion of youth orchestras, the Rock en Conce festival and other initiatives”.
Once again, the FILB will be held in the context of the Summer School of the University of Concepción “Voices, imaginaries and territories”, which maintains the transformative and avant-garde spirit of its first versions promoted by the outstanding poet Gonzalo Rojas Pizarro.
In this sense, the Rector of the University of Concepción, Carlos Saavedra Rubilar, highlighted that “this second version of the FILB will include a rich cultural program, which will bring together more than 80 authors and agents from the publishing world in more than 100 activities scheduled for the public, such as discussion tables, talks or presentations, book presentations, dialogues with relevant participants, artistic activities for the family and for girls and boys, among other initiatives designed for all audiences, which will take place in the five scenarios arranged in the Concepción Campus”.
The Biobío International Book Fair seeks to expand its margins of call and impact, cementing the path towards positioning the initiative as a national and international epicenter of publishing and book activity during the summer season, in addition to being a promoter of tourism and economic activity at the territorial level.
