The expectations of industrial entrepreneurs about the future of the economy and sales in the foreign market In January, for the fourth month, they presented a downward trend, despite remaining in positive territory.

On the other hand, the trend of expectations regarding the situation of companies tends to improve, also being in positive territoryaccording to industrial survey carried out by the Chamber of Industries of Uruguay (CIU).

For its part, the CIU report shows a7.2% increase in sales in physical volumes in the fourth quarter of 2021 in the year-on-year comparison, becoming above pre-pandemic levels.

On average, industrial sales were placed in 2021 12% above those of 2020in line with the increase of 13% of industrial production reported by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

The industrial sales in physical volumes destined for the domestic market increased 3.2% in the fourth quarter of 2021while for the entire year 2021 a 3.4% increase. Sales destined for the domestic market they are still at low levels in the pre-pandemic comparison.

Employment in the sector, meanwhile, reversed downward trend but stalledregistering only an increase close to 1% in employed personnel during the period.
