This Wednesday the opening ceremony of the exhibition “Traditional Crafts and Russian Icons” was held at the Municipal Art History Museum of the Municipality of Montevideo (IM), located next to the main headquarters of the commune.
This exhibition takes place within the framework of the celebration of 165 years of diplomatic relations between Russia and Uruguay and will be available from June 16 to July 9. The museum will be open, with free admission, from Monday to Saturday.
This will be a way to commemorate, in advance, the diplomatic ties of these two countries, whose formal celebration is scheduled for December.
For the opening of the exhibition, the ambassador Andrey Budayev. The representative of the Eurasian country highlighted the links between Uruguay and Russia in all these years. He highlighted everything related to culture, society, related to this display of crafts and icons of Russian society.
Budaev especially thanked the media coverage and the municipal government of Montevideo. Regarding the latter, he was grateful that this museum space has been opened to carry out this exhibition.
Open and free admission, even on Saturdays
Later, the director of culture of the commune, María Inés Obaldía, took the floor. In her speech, she recalled the functions performed by the museum, which is located as a kind of showcase on Ejido street. This enclosure is specially arranged so that passers-by, when they walk down the street, can have the context of entering a museum of this type, which is free to enter and has the peculiarity of being one of the few museums that opens on Saturdays. , for all public.
In this way, the director of culture, María Inés Obaldía, developed the entire theme that involves the policy of the municipal administration of Montevideo in the area of culture and art and in which it welcomes the Russian government with this special exhibition.
Finally, the director of the municipal art history museum, María José Bolognini, spoke. In her turn, she took the opportunity to comment on all the restructuring that is being carried out at the level of artistic and cultural communication of the IM.
The director explained how the cultural agenda of the commune is developed and specifically the social and cultural ties with other countries that have been developing on different dates and months, as now to the Russian State to present the traditional crafts of icons of that country.
