The entrance to Machu Picchu is temporarily closed due to protests

As a consequence of the the Ministry of Culture (Mincul) closed indefinitely the entrance to the citadel of (Cusco). This measure will apply “until further notice”.

The Decentralized Directorate of the Mincul reported that no more visitors will be able to enter the citadel. The action responds to the attempt to preserve the historical heritage since the district began an indefinite strike.

People who already had their ticket can use it up to a month after the conclusion of the protestsor otherwise the facilities will be provided for the return of the money.

Look: Hotels only have 20% occupancy

A few days ago, the Cusco Chamber of Commerce reported that, as a result of the roadblocks and demonstrations, visits to Macchu Picchu.

This figure meant more than S/1 million lost every day, taking into account that this is the main attraction for tourists visiting Peru.

It should also be noted that according to information from the Peruvian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (Apavit), 90% of the reservations until May, of foreign tourists who wanted to visit Peru, were cancelled.
