A group of five rural development societies in the northeast of Canelonesworried about the damages that producers have as a consequence of the droughtHe decided advance the joint purchase of rations which usually take place at the end of March.
With the support of the Cooperativa Agraria Nacional de Fasoneros de Pollos Unidos (Conafpu), the intention is that in this eighth joint purchase the indicators of recent experiences are exceeded, when 120 tons were purchased and 200 producers benefited.
One of the development companies involved.
Daniel Pereyra, in charge of cooperation projects of the cooperative, explained to The Observer that although in the 20 farmers that make up Conafpu there are some that have cattle, “the decision to collaborate is based on an attitude of solidarity, giving a hand at a very difficult time.”
He also said that “it would be good to recognize the effort made by the directors of rural development entities to keep their organizations running, despite the depopulation that has occurred in those areas of the northeast of the Canary Islands.”
The advancement of the joint purchase was motivated by the seriousness of the situation in many family-scale cattle farms, where they are running out of food for their herds.
Unloading of the ration.
“Access to a good quality ration and at a price that is below the market value It also allows better use of the support provided by the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) is giving producers, boosts the credit tool”, said Pereyra.
The rural development societies of Tapia, San Jacinto, Los Arenales, San Bautista and Migues are involved in the joint purchase.
The product purchased is a pelleted cattle maintenance ration, with 11 to 12% protein and 15% fiber.
The ration is already pelleted.
The cost per ton, to raise the ration in the development society, is US$ 366 dollars, when in the market that ration is US$ 388 and without fighting.
Pereyra explained that this joint purchase allows small producers, who buy 120 kilos, for example, to achieve the price that a large producer who can buy 120 tons alone gets.
Partner producers of the aforementioned entities can now sign up. There is a deadline until Friday, February 17. And those who are not members can link to the entity closest to their property to access the benefit.
The ration is delivered in 40 kilo bags.
