The Executive Power decreed a holiday for this Friday throughout the national territory, to allow “the Argentine people” to demonstrate in “repudiation of the attack” that Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner suffered on her life on Thursday, and in “defense of the peace and democracy”, as published in the Official Gazette.
“Declare a national holiday on September 2, 2022 so that the Argentine people can express their deepest repudiation of the attempt on the life of the Vice President of the Nation, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, and speak out in defense of peace and democracy,” says the Decree of Necessity and Urgency 573/2022.
The decree adds that the different agencies are instructed to implement “the pertinent measures in order to maintain the necessary guards in order to preserve the continuity of essential services.”
The legal norm, which bears the signature of all the members of the National Cabinet, highlights in its recitals that on Thursday “around 9:00 p.m.”, the Vice President “was the victim of an attempt on her life.”
“This attack constitutes a threat to democracy that requires timely and clear actions from the State in defense of its political institutions and social peace.” she adds.
The decree maintains that “it is essential that society as a whole be able to express itself in peace in defense of democracy and its institutions and in repudiation of expressions of hatred and political violence.”
According to this, the holiday seeks that “the Argentine people can express their deepest repudiation of the attempt on the life of the Vice President of the Nation, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, and speak out in defense of peace and democracy.”
The spokesperson for the Presidency Gabriela Ceruti had released on its official Twitter account the DNU that bears the signature of the head of state and other officials and that in its recitals states that “on September 1, 2022, around 9:00 p.m., the Vice President of the Nation , Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, was the victim of an attempt on her life”.
