The Comptroller General of the Republic (CGR) requested a report from the Ministry General Secretariat of the Presidency (Segpres) —in charge of Giorgio Jackson—, after a complaint by the head of the bench of deputies of the Christian Democrats (DC), Eric Aedo , who questioned the role of the Secretary of State in the constitutional plebiscite.
Deputy Aedo accuses Minister Jackson of receiving proposals from only one political sector, favoring one option in the face of the crucial election on the new Magna Carta from La Moneda.
The DC parliamentarian also criticized the head of the Segpres for his statements against the government of Sebastián Piñera and those of the Concertación, indicating in an interview on Twitch that “our scale of values and principles around politics is not only far from the government but I think in front of a generation that came before us,” and for which Jackson later apologized.
Given these statements, Aedo also indicated that he sent a letter to the CGR, denouncing the electoral interventionism of Minister Jackson for his interview on the internet, accusing him of occupying “maneuvers similar to those carried out by the dictatorship in 1988 with the plebiscite.”

According to the Comptroller’s office, Minister Jackson will have three business days to respond to the request of the office.
It is worth mentioning that the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Raúl Soto (PPD), warned about the role that the Ministry General Secretariat of the Presidency will take, to receive the proposals of the parties to reform the constitutional text prior to the plebiscite of the 4 of September.
“You have to be careful with that,” said Soto, after President Gabriel Boric urged his coalitions to create a single document committing reforms to the constitutional proposal.
