The Arauco Malleco Coordinator (CAM) released a statement in which it rules out any possibility of engaging in a dialogue with the government of President Gabriel Boric, since the current administration would bet on the “annihilation” of the Mapuche People through a “strategy assimilationist” disguised as “progressive” and “cool”.
“We are not going to dialogue with those whose ultimate goal is the annihilation of our people,” the CAM affirms in the statement, pointing to the Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, as one of the representatives interested in achieving that goal of annihilation, while criticizes the new commitment to dialogue since this “recycled political and bureaucratic design to address the conflict with the Mapuche nation is doomed to failure.”
“As CAM, we are not going to dialogue with those whose ultimate goal is the annihilation of our people, such as Monsalve and company,” reads the letter.
“We have defined ourselves as revolutionary Mapuche and we have fought for years the territorial expressions of the capitalist and colonial state. It is for the same reason that our actions will continue to strike at the reproduction of big capital that operates with blood and fire in our Wallmapu and we will strengthen territorial control as the basic and only platform to transform the reality created by genocidal extractivism”, he adds.
According to the group, “what the Government is seeking is not to advance in the resolution of the conflict, but to legitimize its assimilationist apparatus at all costs, mainly with co-opted and servile Mapuche sectors”, while criticizing the Mapuche who adhere to the Government’s call or that join discussion spaces such as the Constitutional Convention. They even state that the government is seeking dialogue to
“legitimize a progressive discourse on indigenous matters at the national and international level that blinds the lovers of this new ‘progressive’ and ‘cool’ government”.
“In the midst of so much confusion, we reaffirm our military political path of weychan (struggle),” the statement added.
