The 3 main axes linked to Mides in Accountability

The Minister of Social Development (Mides), Martín Lema, shared the three main axes of the portfolio in the Accountability project that the Executive Branch sent to Parliament. The report, made through a thread on his twitter accounthighlights the approach in Mental Health and Problematic Drug Use, reinforcement of the food system and a program of community promoters of autonomy in educational centers.

The first axis is the approach to mental health and the problematic use of drugs, which is especially aimed at people released from the penitentiary system and homeless to “act on causes and avoid consequences”.

Reinforcement of the food system, is the second axis, in a framework where «although the demand decreased according to the records of the number of users of the National System of Dining Rooms, portions prepared by the Army and initiatives of pots and picnic areas; we see it necessary to strengthen structural aspects».

Regarding this issue, according to FAO, in 2016 there was more food insecurity than in 2020. “Inexplicably”, between 2016 and 2018 there were closures of INDA dining rooms.

In 2018, the Nutrition, Child Development and Health Survey (ENDIS) indicated that 37% of children from 0 to 4 years of age in the first third of income (low-income families) had moderate or severe food insecurity.

“With this background, more official data that we aspire to obtain in the next semester, is that we understood it pertinent to reinforce the INDA”, he explained.

As a third axis, Mides presented the program for community promoters of autonomy in educational centers: “Designed to provide care to children with disabilities in a situation of dependency from educational centers.”

This is a pilot project that will be carried out together with ANEP “so that these children receive the required care and can carry out activities within the educational center.”
