The urban teachers of La Paz came out this Friday night to protest against the Government proposal to increase 1.5% to the basic credit, which was raised with the Bolivian Workers Central (COB).
José Luis Álvarez, leader of the La Paz teachers, criticized that the COB took charge of that negotiation and he recalled that the teachers raised that point in their petition statement.
“What is the result of the salary increase? Only a miserable 1.5% that (the Government) is raising. For teachers, how much does 1.5% represent? for a 80-hour teacher represents the miserable amount of Bs 38 a month; for a teacher who has 120 hours, it represents a miserable increase of Bs 58 per month, ”he said during the rally that took place in San Francisco, in the capital of La Paz.
Álvarez questioned that workers retire with an average amount of Bs 2,500, while the manager of the Long-Term Social Security Public Manager receives Bs 35,000 as salary. He advocated retirement with 100% of assets.
On the other hand, and since it is scheduled that next Monday the 24th the national proposals of the Urban Teachers will be resumed, the leader was contrary to the 72 hour strikeas a measure of pressure.
“We must be careful enough to launch measures of pressure, (so) that they do not end up compromising the struggle of the teachers. There are desperate people who want to go on strike for 72 hours, who He is going to confront us with the parents and that it will give paper so that the masistas turn against us, ”said Álvarez, who proposes incorporating more sectors into the street protest to generalize it.
The country’s teachers have agreed to pause their national protest this week. However, they announced that they will rearticulate to resume their demonstrations, starting Monday 24. Álvarez indicated that there is a probability that a national enlargement will be held on that date, at the seat of Government.
