Thanks to an own goal, Corinthians wins the first in Libertadores

It wasn’t easy, but Corinthians got their first victory in the current edition of the Copa Libertadores. Pushed by more than 37 thousand fans, who, this Wednesday (13), filled the Neo Química Arena, in São Paulo, Timão defeated Deportivo Cali (Colombia) by 1-0.Thanks to an own goal, Corinthians wins the first in Libertadores

Even with the triumph, Corinthians remains in the bottom of Group E, but with the same three points as all their opponents in the group, including the leader Depoprtivo Cali.

Timão started the match well, and came to swing the opposing nets in the 31st minute of the first half. Matuan kicked cross and Jô deflected it to the back of the goal. However, the bid was canceled due to the striker’s irregular position.

Knowing that it was important to win so as not to get into trouble in the group stage of the competition, Corinthians continued to press for the three points, which were only guaranteed in the 22nd minute of the final stage, when defender Caldera failed and scored against.

Even with a victory achieved in these circumstances, Timão is in a more comfortable situation for the next challenge for Libertadores, against Boca Juniors, on April 26 in São Paulo.
