Exports of the textile-apparel chain totaled US$285.5 million in the first two months of the year, reflecting an increase of 32.1% compared to the same period in 2021, the highest figure in recent years in that period, reported the Exporters Association (ADEX).
However, the union clarified that the record amount of 2012 (January-February) when it totaled US$ 315 million has not yet been reached, for that reason, and in order to strengthen the capacities of the members of the chain and add to its total recovery. , the business association will organize the XVIII Exporting Textile Forum on June 21 at the BTH Hotel, in Lima.
In this regard, the ADEX Manufacturing Manager, Melissa Vallebuona Peña, explained that prominent national and international exhibitors will participate who will address issues of technology, sustainability, fashion and new consumer trends after the pandemic, among other aspects.

It should be noted that the United States remains the main market for Peruvian textile and clothing products in recent years, mainly due to the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries.
“Although we have a trade agreement with the US since 2009, we still have the opportunity to make better use of it. Events such as the Exporting Textile Forum are very important for exporting companies with a view to continuing to promote this productive activity”, he explained.
Likewise, he advised continuing to work on market diversification, especially focusing on destinations in the region, since many of them are prioritizing closer suppliers instead of those from other continents due to the current logistics crisis.
On the other hand, Vallebuona highlighted the importance of this industry precisely because it is one of the industries that generates the most employment, since in the first two months of the year they achieved a stock of 61,764 jobs, the fourth most intensive after agribusiness, traditional agriculture and mining.
“Both sectors are part of the economic recovery, however, a climate of greater stability in the country is necessary on the part of the Executive and the Legislative, which will give companies the necessary peace of mind to continue improving and giving more work to more Peruvians.”, he pointed.

The union reported that the participation of more than 250 visitors is expected, who will be able to witness the presentations of national and international experts, as well as additional activities such as a showroom and a fashion show.
