Minister of Culture will lead a meeting with the national museum community

Santo Domingo.- The Minister of Culture, Milagros Germán, will lead a meeting with the national museum community in order to strengthen ties and develop initiatives aimed at revaluing the Dominican cultural heritage, particularly that which is preserved and exhibited by public, semi-private and private museums.

On the occasion of International Museum Day, the meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, May 18, at the facilities of the Museum of Modern Art.

The event will feature the valuable intervention of Carlos Andújar, General Director of Museums, and the welcoming remarks will be given by Federico Fondeur, Director of the Museum of Modern Art.

In this meeting, the management of the collections and the functions of the State in relation to the preservation and promotion of the national cultural heritage will be analyzed.

This year the theme proposed by ICOM (International Council of Museums) is “The Power of Museums”, and aims to highlight museums as spaces with the power to transform the world and as incomparable places of discovery.

During the meeting, the participants will discuss the ability of museums to open our minds to new ideas and their influence on the process of building community through creativity and education.

The participants will consider the convenience of revising the regulations of the National Network of Museums and the application of protocols that allow greater fluidity of the processes and rigors that museum work requires as a specialized cultural area of the Dominican State.

The result pursued in this conclave is to achieve the configuration of a national system of museums that has a broader institutional framework, regulated, and that enables the greatest benefit for its members, recognizing the public and private spheres.

Likewise, it is intended to articulate the formation of a museum community that facilitates the coordination of actions, training programs, cooperation, financing and legal ordinances, in order to improve the national cultural offer.

Representatives from the Eduardo León Jimenes Cultural Center, the Pre-Hispanic Art Hall, the Perelló Cultural Center and the International Council of Museums (ICOM) will also participate in the meeting-conversation.

The agenda of topics to be discussed will include, among others, “Sustainability in the management of climate, economic and local development plans”, “Innovation and accessibility: digital world” and “Management of collections and other views towards the public”.

Other issues that will be addressed will be the construction of a stronger community, through education, the definition of community programs, dialogues with community organizations and inclusion programs.
