The women’s tennis team from Brazil beat Chile 2-0, this Saturday (16), and guaranteed the dispute of the next stage of the playoffs of the world group of the Billie Jean King Cup, main division of the competition (kind of World Cup of the modality).
The classification of the green and yellow team came with 100% success in Group I of the Americas. The championship takes place in Salinas, Ecuador.
Laura Pigossi, bronze in doubles at the Tokyo Olympics, beat Barbara Gatica by 6/4 and 6/2 in 1 hour and 27 minutes of the match and put Brazil ahead in the duel.
In the sequence, Beatriz Haddad surpassed Daniela Seguil (252nd in the world) by 6/2 and 6/3 and closed the confrontation against Chile in 2 to 0.
Before winning Chile, the representatives of Brazil (Bia Haddad, Carolina Meligeni, Laura Pigossi, Gabriela Cê and Rebeca Pereira) had already won Guatemala, Colombia and Argentina.
The next stage is scheduled for November, when the Brazilians will compete for a spot in the World Group qualifiers in 2023.
