Tenjo receives award for initiative that provides internet to rural areas

The municipality of Tenjo in Cundinamarca received the National Senior Management Award 2022, awarded by the Presidency of the Republic, on behalf of an initiative called ‘Kioskos Tenjo Digital’, which seeks to bring the internet to rural areas and populated centers and decentralize procedures before the secretariats and dependencies of the Mayor’s Office.

Under the slogan “Connectivity for Everyone” they installed seven kiosks in order to provide facilities to the inhabitants of rural areas. The points known as “Tenjo Digital” were located in the villages of Juaica, Chincé, Poveda 2, Churuguaco Alto, Martín y Espino, Santa Cruz and Carrasquilla.

Each one of these kiosks is equipped with modern computers and printers, and are managed by an official from the municipal administration, in charge of guiding and provide training and support to citizens who require it, including peasants, single mothers and the elderly.

The initiative led by the Mayor, was born after the request of the community during the work tables for the conformation of the Municipal Development Planon several occasions the citizens expressed the need to improve iunternet connectivity in the municipality.

“This is an award dedicated to the community of our beloved municipality who rightly requested the municipal administration to install these innovative kiosks, which today allow citizens of rural areas to access internet services and paperwork without having to travel long distances”, Mayor Sonia González pointed out.

As a complement to the kiosks, antennas with Wi-Fi connection were also enabled in five strategic sectors of the municipality, tothere the inhabitants can connect for free from your devices.

The project was nominated in a contest in which 452 experiences from all over the country participated, which were evaluated by national and international juries, among which several stand out. diplomats, experts in technological innovations and public administration.
