What is the temporary permit to drive without license plates in Mexico City?

The temporary permit to circulate without license plates is a document that allows you to use a vehicle in Mexico City for a certain period of time without needing to have license plates, a registration card or a sticker.

This is granted in two cases: when you acquire a new vehicle that requires adaptations, such as a body, or when you need to transport a used vehicle to another federal entity, and it has been deregistered from the CDMX vehicle registry.

How to process it and how long does it take?

To process this permit, you must comply with the following procedure:

Requirements:

  • Official identification (voter ID, passport, professional ID, among others).
  • Proof of address no older than 90 days.
  • Documentation proving ownership of the vehicle (invoice or invoice letter).
  • Format TSEMOVI_ST_PTC_5_7.pdf duly completed.
  • Current insurance policy.
  • Proof of payment for the permit, which amounts to 1,083.00 pesos.

Process:

  1. Make the payment for the permit through a capture line that you will obtain depending on the type of vehicle.
  2. Schedule an appointment through the portal CDMX key .
  3. Go to the Citizen Service Module with the original documents and their copies. You can check the location of the nearest one at https://www.cdmx.gob.mx
  4. At the module, the documentation will be reviewed and validated. If you meet all the requirements, you will receive the temporary permit.

Depending on the case, The permit may be valid for 15 or 30 business days.
