The executive secretary of the National Confederation of Teachers of Rural Education of Bolivia, Andrés Huayta, responded this Sunday to the threat made the previous week by the head of the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS), Evo Morales, to expel the teachers who do not want to work in face-to-face classes due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are not afraid of any threat because, as teachers, we have fulfilled what society has entrusted to us, we have fulfilled our students, in the midst of a pandemic we have risked. We must say that we have lost more than 800 colleagues because of Covid-19, “said Huayta in statements published this Sunday by the Erbol network.

Morales had issued the warning last Thursday, during a meeting of coca growers in Cochabamba. “Brother Vice Minister, there cannot be virtual classes, that is damaging to education. Every effort must be made so that the classes are face-to-face throughout Bolivia, especially in the tropics of Cochabamba. This year we have shown that it is possible. If a teacher does not want to work, it is better for him to leave, not to harm education, “he warned.

Huayta said that he does not understand former President Morales because he knows how the country is administered and asked him to abide by the regulations by which Bolivian education is administered. He stressed that the Magisterium is managed within the framework of the National Ladder Code and Ministerial Resolution 001, which has already been worked on for 2022.

“It makes no sense to threaten the teachers,” insisted the leader.
