The busiest airport in the country overcame the last obstacle to be granted to the private sector. The Federal Audit Court (TCU) approved today (1st) the auction of Congonhas Airport, in São Paulo, and 14 more terminals, which will be auctioned in the 7th round.
The Ministry of Infrastructure intends to promote the auctions in the first or second week of August. According to the ministry, the concession should attract R$ 7.3 billion in private investment, with works to improve and expand the terminals.
The airports will be divided into three blocks. The first, led by Congonhas Airport, has ten other terminals in three states: Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará and Minas Gerais. This block includes the airports of Campo Grande (MS), Corumbá (MS), Ponta Porã (MS), Santarém (PA), Marabá (PA), Carajás (PA), Altamira (PA), Uberlândia (MG), Uberaba ( MG) and Montes Claros (MG).
The second block comprises Campo de Marte (SP) and Jacarepaguá (RJ) airports, intended for small aircraft. The third block encompasses airports in two capital cities in the North Region: Belém and Macapá.
Originally, Santos Dumont Airport, in Rio de Janeiro, would be auctioned along with the airports in the interior of Minas Gerais. However, the auction should only take place in 2023, together with Galeão Airport (RJ)whose concession is being returned by the consortium that manages the terminal since 2014.
Transmission lines
The TCU also approved the auction of electricity transmission lines in 13 states, scheduled for June 30th. Although this year’s public notice has few changes compared to last year’s second half auction, the TCU made a series of recommendations. The concession is expected to generate R$ 15.3 billion in private investments and generate permitted annual revenues (RAP) of R$ 2.2 billion.
