The relatives of the opposition and political prisoner Tamara Davila They reported, at a press conference, the first meeting this Saturday, August 20, with their six-year-old daughter, at the Judicial Assistance Directorate (DAJ) in Managua, after 14 months of not seeing her.
In a statement read by Ana Lucía Álvarez, sister of the prisoner of conscience, Tamara Dávila’s family pointed out that the dictatorship allowed her to visit after Dávila began a hunger strike to demand compliance with the right to visits.

“This first visit was achieved after constant verbal requests to the authorities of the Directorate of Judicial Assistance, the filing of seven judicial appeals, additional efforts in all instances, and numerous campaigns promoted by individuals and solidarity groups,” the letter states.
They recalled that “there is no legal justification for denying a 6-year-old girl that right for more than 14 months, since visits and communication are rights contained in national laws and international conventions…”.

“A single visit is not enough. I demand that regular visits and calls be immediately allowed from all minor and disabled sons and daughters to their mothers and fathers who are political prisoners, including those who are outside the country,” demanded the kidnapped politician, according to the note published by her family. .
Regarding the physical condition of Támara Dávila, her family affirms that she is “strong, dignified and happy for the meeting with her daughter. Nevertheless, We are concerned that despite the fact that in the previous visit he had reported an increase in the quantities of food, these conditions changed immediately at the end of the visits, so he has had a notable weight loss, which increased due to the hunger strike. which began on August 15.
On the other hand, they pointed out that the meeting was very emotional and that despite the presence of the armed police, the minor has managed to mature due to the difficult situation that her mother is going through. “We have been preparing the girl and even more so when she witnessed the violation of Tamara’s rights. At the end of her visit, she told him: “Mom, see you soon”.
They demand to allow visits every 15 days
The relatives of Dávila and other political prisoners demand that the dictatorship immediately allow a visit by all children and young people to their fathers and mothers who are political prisoners and a video call by children who are outside the country.
They also demand to guarantee regular visits every 15 days and weekly phone calls with relatives, which includes minor children and young people with disabilities as established by Nicaraguan law.

In turn, they call on the regime to authorize human rights commissions and the International Red Cross Committee to enter the Directorate of Judicial Assistance “to verify the state of health of our relatives.”

It is unknown if the Nicaraguan dictatorship will continue to allow the children of prisoners of conscience to visit them in the cells of “El Nuevo Chipote” or if it was only this time, in the context of repression against the Catholic Church.
