The summit of the Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean Countries was suspended due to the “recovery protocol” of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s Covid-19, diplomatic sources said.
The event, in which the presidents or representatives of eleven regional nations would meet, was to be held in Cancun on May 6 and 7. But after the virus was detected in the Mexican president, it was decided to suspend it.
According to reports, for now there is no date to reschedule the work of the Alliance. Participating nations are Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Honduras, Venezuela, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Mexico.

The meeting was scheduled on April 5, when the heads of state of the eleven nations had a first exchange remotely – at the initiative of the López Obrador government – to find joint solutions to face price pressures and the scarcity of products, as well as and to strengthen regional integration and trade.
Another of the points that was expected to be discussed in Cancun was the preparation of a joint statement in search of peace in the face of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
