Students from all over the country will be able to travel for free from the first day of classes

As of Wednesday, March 1, free recharges of the student STM card and bus passes will be enabled for all students in the interior of the country.

This was explained by the coordinator of Metropolitan Transport of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP), Joselo Hernández. The benefit is valid for public education students and private education scholarship holders.

Hernández added that the student card is for those who are in 7th, 8th or 9th grade with up to 18 years of age or 4th, 5th or 6th of secondary school or UTU, with up to 20 years of age old. This benefit is valid for students of public education, and for those of private education who have a 100% scholarship in private institutes. They will have access to 50 free monthly tickets to travel between their home and the study center, help for those who reside at a distance of more than one kilometer from the respective educational centers.

Hernández explained that the STM card costs 52 pesos and highlighted that this year students will already have tickets to use from the first day of classes, both for those that start on Monday 6 or Tuesday 7 March.

Students who are not qualified must go to their study center to verify that the registration has been made correctly in the ticket system. They may also make inquiries to [email protected]
