For an indefinite time, the personnel of the Salvador B. Gautier hospital remain on strike demanding a solution to the wake of calamities affecting that center, which yesterday led to the resignation of its second director, Miguel Ángel Geraldino.
The person in charge of Internal Medicine, José Gabreil González, assured that the hospital is being strangled by the rosary of economic difficulties that prevent its proper functioning.
González said that it is impossible to provide an efficient service when they do not have the necessary technological and human resources to attend to the 500 patients who come to consultations, the 25 who go to the emergency room, where many arrive seriously ill and die “because we have nothing.”
“Here there is a lack of catheters, oxygen, manometers, nursing staff for surgery, even prescription books are missing. This situation reached the limit, there are times when crises are needed so that the authorities can react », he pointed out.
He added that “this is a disregard and a lack of respect that caused our director Geraldino to resign; we have to say that there was a semi-kidnapping by holding him momentarily with a guard to prevent his resignation ».
The official warned that they will continue to fight until the director of the National Health Service, Mario Lama, presents himself with a solution to the problems of the hospital, which has 25 medical specialties and is the one that receives the fewest resources.

“They have been playing with us not to solve the problem. It is so much so that the Comptroller’s Office has withheld 44 million pesos that belong to this center and that money is used to meet the needs of patients, in serious condition, “he said.
He expressed that “the greatest disease of an official is that it does not work as a result of arrogance, for which we understand that it tarnishes the management of President Luis Abinader.”
“We are not going to allow the mistreatment and outrages against the personnel of the Salvador B. Gautier hospital to continue, as the authorities of the National Health Service have been doing,” he stated.
He added that “the dictatorship is over, we have to stop arrogance, we have to stop arrogance and solve the problems that concern this hospital, which are many, because not even the bathrooms work here.”
“Only in the daily emergency, 15 people wait for intensive care and we only have five beds, so they end up dying because we have no way of helping them to save their lives,” he insisted.
“Given the arrogant attitude of the authorities of the National Health Service, headed by Dr. Mario Lama, in this hospital we can say without fear of being wrong that it is falling apart, so we ask President Luis Abinader to intervene because due to shortcomings our patients are dying and we have to see them die because we have no way, we have no resources, we have no equipment, we have no personnel to save the lives of those patients who come to the Savaldor B. Gautier hospital”, he said.
There are two resignations
In less than five months, two directors of the Savaldor B. Gautier hospital have resigned, alleging deficiencies that prevent them from providing quality service to patients. The first to resign was Dr. Fredis Pérez Agüero after “getting tired of promises.”
