Cancun, QR. This Monday, October 17, the 34th edition of the Cancun Travel Martwith the projection of achieving more than 6,000 business appointments with the main wholesale travel agencies and international tour operators that meet to negotiate the offer of lodging in the Mexican Caribbean for the 2022-2023 winter season.
During the opening ceremony, Jesús Almaguer Salazar, leader of the hoteliers of cancunannounced that for the first time in the history of the state they are working on the formation of the Council of Hotel Associations of the Mexican Caribbean, which would bring together the associations of Cancun, Riviera Maya, Tulum and Cozumel, as well as the Association of Vacation Clubs of Quintana Roo.
The main objective of bringing together the four hotel associations is to focus the efforts of the four agencies on attracting more and more tourism, in addition to jointly addressing specific problems such as the mistreatment faced by Colombian visitors in the migratory modules of the Cancun International Airport or request the elimination of visas for the Brazilian market.
Regarding the travel-mart, Almaguer Salazar mentioned that more than 300 suppliers are expected throughout the two days of negotiations. “The hotel venue where the event will take place is full, and we are happy to double the number of buyers and delegates, we even had to expand the space, which gives us great enthusiasm that it will be a successful edition.”
He announced that with the negotiations that are achieved in this meeting, it is very likely that a hotel occupancy of over 80% will be ensured during the high season at the end of the year.
He recalled that in last year’s edition they achieved sales of 3,000 million dollars in the more than 3,500 business appointments achieved, in addition to the recovery of rates to pre-pandemic levels, so for this year there are already hotels that are marketed even with rates between 10 and 15% higher than last year.
During her participation in the inaugural act, the governor of Quintana RooMara Lezama, highlighted that by the end of the year it is anticipated that the entity will exceed the 13.5 million tourists that it captured at the end of 2021 at a double-digit rate, in addition to the fact that it is very likely that the Cancun International Airport break its historical record of 25.4 million passengers mobilized in 2019, to achieve a figure never before recorded of 27 million travelers.
