SRI collected $253 million more in taxes in January 2022

More than 53% of what is collected is due to VAT. The consequences of the tax reform are not yet reflected in tax revenues.

The tax collection January 2022 amounted to $1,556 million, which represents a growth of 19% compared to the same period in 2021, in which $1,303 million were collected.

Marisol Andrade, general director of the Internal Revenue Service (SRI), reported that in the first month of this year $253 million plus income entered the fiscal coffers.

“The increase in tax collection It is the result of control and collection processes executed by the SRI to verify the timely and correct compliance with the payment of the taxes. In addition, it is the reflection of the economic reactivation of the country”, he affirmed.

The largest contribution came from Value Added Tax (VAT), which in January 2022 generated $827 million; that is, an increase of 31% in relation to January of the previous year.

On the other hand, the Income tax raised $467 million, which meant 6% more. However, what is established in the tax reformwhere payments to the treasury increase for those who earn more than $2,000 per month.

At the end of this month of February, the increase will be seen, an increase in the collection derived from the limitation of personal expense deductions and the changes in the income tax table.
