Spanish festival MiradasDoc proposes several Cuban stories

Cuba will be the guest country at the International Documentary Film Festival LooksDocwhich will take place from January 27 to February 4 in the Spanish municipality of Guía de Isora, Tenerife.

Coordinated by the filmmaker and university professor Aída Esther Bueno Sarduy and the critic and filmmaker Jose Luis Aparicio Ferrerathe Cuban exhibition will offer the public the projection of a feature film and seven short films.

Recently made and from different narrative approaches, they discuss the survival of the African heritage and racial conflicts in Cuba today.

Works such as The music of the spheres (Marcel Beltran), Best Feature Film Award at Rencontres de Cinémas – Martinique; The mountain (Claudia Claremi), best short film at the Raindance Film Festival o Kalunga (Lara Sousa), Best Short Film Award in Sao Paulo.

Also pieces of ethnographic appeal such as Canvas Boy Documentary by Miguel Ángel García Velasco, who approaches the Matanzas Cabildo, the only one of its kind in Cuba and directed by women for more than 200 years.

Other materials highlight women filmmakers like Everlane Moraes with pattaki; Michelle Coelho with The Sea Is Also Yours, Daniellis Hernandez Calderon with Unfinished piece for Martha Ndumbe and Aída Esther Bueno Sarduy, director of Guillermina.

MiradasDoc preferentially attends to documentary films with a social theme and those produced or shot in countries of the global south, as well as those that delve into topics such as south-south relations.

With the collaboration of the Foreign Action area of ​​the Cabildo de Tenerife, it constitutes a space for analysis of the historical ties between Africa and Latin America, as well as a place to make visible the social processes that are developed on a global scale.

The Festival maintains different alliances throughout the year with other events such as the Durban Film Festival, DocMontevideo, DocsMX or DOCSP, among others.

Last year, the board of directors of the Spanish Film Academy selected the Guía de Isora International Documentary Film Festival, MiradasDoc as a qualifier for the Goya Awards, according to what the newspaper published. Notice Journal.
