SP: task force offers legal support for homeless people

Federal, state and municipal public institutions, in partnership with civil society organizations, are holding a joint effort today (15) to offer services to people in vulnerable situations in Praça da Sé, downtown São Paulo. Legal assistance, health care and issuance of documents will be offered. The action also takes place tomorrow (16) and on Thursday (17), from 10 am to 3 pm.SP: task force offers legal support for homeless people

Among the institutions present are the public defenders’ offices, the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), the Federal Public Ministry, the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Red Cross, the city of São Paulo and the state government.

Registrations in social programs and application for INSS benefits will be updated and registered. People will also be able to take rapid tests for HIV, syphilis and hepatitis, get vaccinated against covid-19, in addition to receiving guidance on diabetes, tuberculosis, alcohol and drugs and oral health. Haircut and makeup will also be available.

The focus is to serve people on the street. According to the city’s latest census, there are 31,800 people sleeping on sidewalks or in shelters in São Paulo.
