Some 80,700 militants will participate in internal elections to be held in 44 II.EE.

This Sunday, May 15, a total of one million 659,742 affiliated voters and determined militants throughout the country will participate in internal elections. In Junín there are 80,700 members and affiliates of 7 regional movements and around 14 national parties, who will go to the polls to elect the next candidates for the 2022 regional and local elections, informed the regional head of the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), Lucia Galarza.

For these internal elections, 5,203 polling stations have been made available to political organizations, 1,054 polling places for 1,659,742 voters, distributed in the 196 provincial capitals, in 873 districts, at the national level. In the region, the installation of 251 tables is planned in more than 30 districts in 44 schools.

Two modalities

According to the national norm, the election of future candidates will take place in two modalities: affiliate vote that will take place on May 15 and indirect vote through delegates to be held on May 22.

Internal elections are simultaneous for all political organizations, with the organization of electoral bodies and political organizations.

“Three regional movements have opted for the direct modality: Aliados por el Cambio, Corazón Patriota and Junín Renace. Those who have chosen the indirect vote through delegates are: Popular Block, Sustainable Junín, Sierra and Selva Contigo Junín and Let’s Walk Together through Junín” asserted the Onpe official.

The results will be processed immediately and progressively with the implementation of a system called Technological Solution for Scrutiny Support (STAE) that will allow the data to be sent directly to the processing center in Lima.

In these internal elections, only the affiliates of political parties or movements will participate, who will go to the polls this weekend, applying particular protocols such as the requirement of the vaccination card.

After the internal elections, the parties will consolidate the candidacies and the population will definitively know the options for which they will choose during the regional and local elections in October 2022.

Provisions. Candidates for regional governors, lieutenant governors, and mayors must have affiliation with the political organization to which they wish to apply. There are no designated candidates.

Those who participate in the internal elections are pre-candidacies registered in the electoral bodies of each political organization, so the verification of compliance with the requirements and impediments for their eventual application is their responsibility. Unlike executive positions, membership in political organizations is not required to apply for council positions.

When reviewing the data of the internal elections of the last two subnational processes, in the internal elections of the ERM 2022 there have been 1,157 fewer lists compared to the internal elections of the EMR 2018.

However, when making the comparison by number of candidacies, for the internal ones of the EMR 2022 there have been 21,612 more, compared to the internal ones of the EMR 2018. That is, for the ERM 2022 there are fewer lists but more candidacies.
