Since May 12, the USA they have repatriated more than 22,000 citizens. The information was provided by the Undersecretary of National Security for Border Policy and Immigration, Blas Núñez-Neto, this Thursday, May 25, during a virtual conference.
The US government official maintained that “the United States has repatriated more than 22,000 individuals, including single adults and families, to more than 70 countries.” The figure includes more than 1,300 citizens of Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Haiti, who were returned to Mexico.
On the other hand, it reported that since January 5 More than 29,000 Cubans have received travel authorization through the parole process “That starts with a sponsor in the United States who can prove financial assistance for individuals who want to come to the US.”
Likewise, the US Undersecretary of National Security for Border Policy and Immigration recalled that changes to the program to obtain parole were announced two weeks ago. This happens, he maintained, by “a process in which half of the daily appointments are going to be assigned through a lottery and with that what we are trying to do is give hope to anyone who has applied.”
At the same time, he warned that if someone is found at the border crossing illegally, without using the CBP One app, they would be processed for expedited repatriation.
“We are also offering Cuban, Nicaraguan, Venezuelan and Haitian citizens the opportunity to return to Mexico voluntarily to remain eligible to participate in this parole process or CBP One, so there are options for Cuban citizens at the border. , but if they insist on crossing illegally and going through the expedited repatriation process, they could be returned with repatriation orders to Cuba or Mexico,” the US official pointed out.
The US is preparing the final changes to the family reunification program to try to have a more efficient process, adding that it did not want to get ahead of the announcement that, according to what it said, will be made in a short time.
“There are legal pathways that exist to reunify children with their parents if they are in the United States and they should go to the American embassy in Havana to ask how to apply for those pathways. We have had unaccompanied children arrive through this program, but these have been very rare exceptions and due to problems with how they were initially processed, which have been corrected and we hope to no longer receive accompanied children through this program,” she expressed.
