The United States ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, assured yesterday that Sinaloa, Durango and Coahuila are strategic for food security in North America and for strengthening the region’s supply chains.

After a visit to Mazatlán, together with the US Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, he reaffirmed our commitment to continue working together on the food security of both nations.

One week away from celebrating 200 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, The three state governments together with the United States embassy laid the foundations to deepen industrial development and enhance logistical opportunities for our integration in North America, thus managing to take advantage of the opportunities that arise from the T-MECSalazar said.

With this, the ambassador affirmed, we promote the food security of our nations and cross-border trade development.

The people in these three states are already experiencing the benefits of the USMCA and to the extent that we facilitate trade and logistical, industrial and border development, our towns will have greater prosperity and opportunitiesexposed.

The diplomat pointed out that the United States and Mexico have the potential to consolidate North America as an economic power and with actions like this we can reaffirm that we are on the right track in the new era of cooperation.

He added that his government sees as an achievement for the protection of the environment and for the wild shrimp fishermen of Sinaloa that have been certified for export by the United States authorities. This will benefit our bilateral trade, since Sinaloa is responsible for 30 percent of the total food production in Mexico and exports more than 80 percent of its meat production to the US market..
