Siderúrgica Mutún registers a 67% advance and plans to produce steel from next year

The construction of the Mutún steel complex, in the border municipality of Puerto Suárez, in Santa Cruzhas an advance of 67%, for which the state company anticipates that the construction will be completed this year and start producing steel in 2024.

“In 2022, the Mutún Integrated Steel Plant reached an accumulated physical execution of 67% and the accumulated financial execution reached 69.57%. Construction is expected to be completed in 2023 and start producing steel from 2024”, indicates a report that the Mutún Steel Company (ESM).

According to company data, the Mutún steel complex It covers 42 hectares (ha) and will have seven plants: Concentration, Pelletization, Direct Reduction (DRI), Steeling, Rolling, Power Plant and Auxiliary Plants, with an investment of $us 546 million.

In October 2022, the president of the ESM, Jorge Alvarado, in an interview with the state agency ABI, explained that the equipment, machinery and other infrastructure with which the steel complex are manufactured in Germany, Spain, France, Italy, China and Mexico, with modern technology.

The steel complex will have its own power generation plant, which will produce 108 megawatts (MW), of which the industry will require 70 MW and there will be a reserve of 38 MW.

The mega-work is built within the framework of the industrialization policy to substitute imports, currently carried out by the national government, according to official data.
