Four journalists and three cameramen were attacked by groups related to the Government that tried to prevent the two peaceful marches that took place in the city of La Paz. The attacks occurred when the workers were covering the events that were taking place in the South zone and in Avaroa square.
“They can have any kind of ideas, the only thing we ask is that they let us work, We have a family waiting for us, we do a job like any citizen, why do they attack people”, questioned Yenni Calizaya, the Red Uno journalist who was attacked in the Avaroa square in La Paz. In the same place, two of her co-workers, Rossell Illanes and Tito Bustamante, were attacked.
Calizaya carried out an office from the same plaza and the attackers threw sticks, eggs and spit against her and her camera, Rossell Illanes. Bustamante wanted to defend them and he was also attacked.
Rodrigo Fernández, a journalist from Red Erbol was also a victim of the attack perpetrated by government supporters of the march that was in the southern area of La Paz. The attackers threw firecrackers indiscriminately and directly at the body. One of those firecrackers reached the communicator’s right arm and exploded, causing “tympanic membrane perforation,” according to the medical certificate he received.
Likewise, the prestigious journalist, Nicolas Sanabria GarronWhen he was broadcasting the events in the South zone, he appeared in the middle of the attackers who verbally assaulted him with large-scale insults, the same ones that were heard in the broadcast he was making. “Fortunately, so far there has been no physical aggression,” said the communicator, recalling what happened.
In hours of the night, when the marchers of the platforms had rearticulated in the South zone, the masistas again threw stones without measuring consequences. One of those stones came to the head of the cameraman, Max Chura, who works in the Bolivisión Network. He was transferred to the oil clinic in that same area.
At that same time, the journalist, Alejandra Rojas, from radio Melodía, was also covering the threat of confrontation in the San Miguel area and received a firecracker in his arm, but it exploded on the ground. Moments later, the masistas threw stones again and the reporter received a stone on her ankle. She was helped by her colleagues who accompanied her.
In all cases, journalists they were not assisted by the police, reported those affected. They added that the police officers only watched the attacks instead of defending the communicators.
