Servel clarifies doubts about the appointment of table members after disinformation in RR.SS.

The Electoral Service (Servel) clarified doubts about the appointment of members of the polling station, after misinformation spread on social networks. This, facing the plebiscite of the proposal for a new Constitution, which will be held on September 4.

In its Twitter account, the agency indicated that “Servel does not appoint members. According to Law 18,700, the members of the polling stations appointed by the Electoral Boards must hold office for four years.”

“The same law indicates that Servel must grant each Electoral Board a list with the voters who have served as a member during the previous four years, indicating the citizens who have not yet completed the entire period and must serve as a member again,” Added Service.

On their website, they indicated that “the members appointed for the May 2021 elections and those appointed for the November 2021 elections who effectively exercised their function, maintain their current four-year appointment.”

“Therefore, and by virtue of the previous provision, they must be designated by the Electoral Boards as members at the new tables where they were assigned, without participating in the lottery,” they added.

“On the other hand, given the legal change that increases the number of voters per polling station to 400, they have decreased from 46,639 to 38,472, for which the vast majority of polling stations are completely covered by the members with current designation, not requiring a new lottery for the titular members, but yes in the case of the substitutes”, they added.

“It is due to the foregoing, and by virtue of the law, that the computer system that the Electoral Service must provide to the Electoral Boards contains the information of the polling station members with a current appointment, because within the last four years they have already been appointed by the Together, proceeding so that the draw is only carried out when members are missing to complete the number of five and in the case of substitutes, “they continued.

Finally, they recalled on their Twitter account that “this August 13, the polling officers designated by the Electoral Boards will be published and that they will exercise in the next Constitutional Plebiscite 2022.”
