Government of Minas opens public consultation on highway concession

The Serra dos Órgãos National Park (Parnaso) resumes today (25) the Petrópolis-Teresópolis crossing and the camping, including overnight stays, in the so-called upper part of the conservation unit, which is one of the best known in the country. The script involves trails and hikes that cut through stretches of the Atlantic Forest.Serra dos Órgãos Park resumes the Petrópolis-Teresópolis crossing

In 2019, in the pre-pandemic period, the Environmental Protection Area (APA) – Petrópolis was the third most visited conservation unit in the country, receiving two million people a year. That’s where the park is located. The APA-Petrópolis is second only to the Tijuca National Park, in Rio, and the Iguaçu National Park, in Paraná.

During the pandemic, visitor admission was reduced, but, with flexibility, it was already allowing visits to the trails in the lower part and access to Morro do Açu. But overnight stay was not allowed.

The opening authorized by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) has a daily limit of 30 places for overnight stay in the camping da Pedra do Sino and 30 places for an overnight stay in camping from Morro do Açu. Shelters are not available and tents are required. Interested parties must make an individualized prior appointment at the official site. Scheduling, by individual CPF, may have a maximum of three consecutive days of visit with two overnight stays.

Request

The request must be requested at least two working days before the intended start of the visit, starting the day after the form is sent, which is valid for up to 5 visitors. The individual data of each person must be informed. Overnight visits can start at 7am, but entry is allowed until 4pm. “This is due to the availability of the ICMBio team that will control access at the headquarters and in the campsites”, informed the institute.

Along with the form, ICMBio will provide another link for calendar, which will be updated at the end of each business day. The agency recommends checking the availability of vacancies for the desired day, before sending the request. “Stay tuned! Prior to submitting your form, other interested parties may have submitted same-day requests, which may fill places before your request is fulfilled.” Submitting the form does not guarantee the appointment of the visit, which is conditioned to the availability of vacancies, according to the order in which the form is received.

“Wait for the email with confirmation and authorization of the requested appointment. If there is no vacancy available, an email will also be sent informing about the unavailability”, he informed.

According to the institute, in the last 13 years, tourism in protected areas has increased by more than 300%, reaching, in 2019, 15 million visitors in federal Conservation Units (UCs). Created on November 30, 1939, the Serra dos Órgãos National Park has an area of 20 thousand hectares that includes the municipalities of Teresópolis, Petrópolis, Magé and Guapimirim.
