Serena Williams assures that the "countdown" to retire has begun

American tennis player Serena Williams announced on Tuesday that the “countdown” to retire as a professional has begunon Instagram and in an interview in Vogue magazine.

“There comes a time in life when we have to decide move in a different direction”said the winner of 22 Grand Slam titles, in a message on Instagram.

“It’s always a difficult time when you love something so much My God, I really enjoy tennis. But now, the countdown has begun,” continued the 40-year-old player.

“I have to concentrate on being a mother, my spiritual goals and finally discovering a different but exciting Serena. I’m going to enjoy these next few weeks,” she stressed.

Williams played Monday on a hard court tennis for the first time in a year and a half, at the WTA tournament in Toronto.

The American qualified to play the second round of the Canadian event after beating the Spanish Nuria Parrizas Díaz (N.57) by 6-3 and 6-4.

Williams got like this his first individual win for fourteen months at Roland Garros 2021, a tournament in which he reached the fourth round.
