After a meeting with the Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, George Jacksonthe official senators of Approve Dignity addressed the possible insistence of the government -possible or not- for its initiative in the limited withdrawal of pensions.
Given this, the deputy for the Broad Front, John Ignatius Latorreaffirmed that “the decision of insistence is from the Executive, not from the parliamentarians. And here two thirds are required to approve this project, if in the Chamber of Deputies 10 votes were lacking, it seems quite difficult that here in the Senate the 2/3”, he limited.
“Regardless of the decision made with this project, which we regret was rejected yesterday by the entire right that voted against it and other factions as well, we did not obtain the votes. We have the best disposition here in the Senate to generate dialogue with the other groups, to put the social needs of families in Chile at the center,” said Latorre.
Therefore, “beyond marrying an initiative, what is more important is the content that this project had, which has to do with alimony, unemployment insurance, indebtedness. Those are the substantive issues and that is what We ask the government not to abandon regardless of yesterday’s result, insisting here in the Senate or not.”
“We ask the government to insist on the agenda of the underlying problem that has to do with the social needs of the people of Chile,” he reiterated.
Along these lines, the parliamentarian stressed that regarding these contents, “some announcements are coming.” Although he maintained that “I cannot advance concrete things,” he assured that “for example, there is a negotiation between the Government and the Unified Workers’ Central that can come to fruition in a few more days,” he specified.
For his part, the Communist senator, Daniel Nunez he stated: “we want the government to also commit to major reforms, we want the pension reform to come in quickly, we want the tax reform to speed up”, although they also understand that urgent problems must be solved, but in that sense they are the great reforms, for this reason they remain vigilant in this regard.
