Senator Juan Ignacio Latorre (RD), addressed what will be the instances where the Socialist Party and the PPD will define their positions regarding whether to go on a unitary list -as President Boric requested-, or if they will do so separately in the election of Constitutional Councillors. For its part, the PS will respond to the President’s call and ratify its decision to go on a single list; meanwhile, from the PPD they seek to go separately.
In this sense, the president of Revolución Democrática commented to Third that he would like “the disposition of a unitary list to face the new constituent process”. However, he assumes that it is what he wants, since “no one can be forced or compelled”.
“I hope that both the PS and the PPD, which are important parties that are part of the government alliance, point in that direction. Obviously, nobody can be forced or compelled here, but that is what I would like to see happen,” express.
On the other hand, the parliamentarian sent a message -indirectly- to the parties of the government coalition that seek greater participation and leadership in the Executive. This, within the framework of various declarations of Democratic Socialism.
“It seems to me that if there are parties that want more representation in the Government, they should respond to the President’s call to go on a unitary list. Otherwise, people would be very confused when they see that, at the same time, they want to have more balance, higher positions, greater representation, the pro-government forces divide and harm the government,” he commented.
“Another case is the DC, which takes a position of staying out of the Government. Therefore, the DC has every right to build a list that differs from the Government. But different is parties that are part of the Government alliance to continue in that path and at the same time ask for greater representation in the Government. That seems to me to be inconsistent and would also confuse the public,” Latorre concluded.
It should be remembered that a few days ago, the president of the PPD, Natalia Piergentili, recognized Cooperative that his party “would like to have more responsibilities in the Government or be more of an incident in some public policies.” And from the PS, its president, Paulina Vodanovic, pointed out that a greater participation of Democratic Socialism “is a definition as a Government that must be adopted.”
