Senate Plenary Approves Nominations for Cade and Regulatory Agencies

House approves bill that updates Military Penal Code

The Senate plenary approved this Thursday (7) the nominations of Alexandre Barreto de Souza for the post of general superintendent and of Victor Oliveira Fernandes and Gustavo Augusto Freitas de Lima for the vacancies of counselors of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade ). In a vote held on Wednesday (6), the name of Juliana Oliveira Domingues was also approved for the role of chief prosecutor of the municipality.Senate Plenary Approves Nominations for Cade and Regulatory Agencies

The nominees were approved on Tuesday (5th) at the Senate Committee on Economic Affairs (CAE). Servers will now be appointed by the President of the Republic.

The new director will serve for a term of four years, while the superintendent-general and the chief attorney will occupy the positions for a period of two years.

The plenary also approved the appointment of Mauro Henrique Moreira Sousa as director general of the National Mining Agency (ANM). The appointment of Roger Romão Cabral to the board of directors of the ANM and the reappointment of director Tasso Mendonça Junior were also approved.

The appointment of Agnes Maria de Aragão da Costa as director of the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) was also confirmed today. There were 31 votes in favor and eight against, plus two abstentions. Voting for the nominee began at the previous day’s session, but was not completed due to lack of quorum.

Three new directors of the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) had their names approved by the Plenary. Fernando Wandscheer de Moura Alves, Cláudio Jorge Martins de Souza and Daniel Maia Vieira are expected to occupy the positions for the next four years.

With 38 votes in favour, 3 against and 3 abstentions, the nomination of Ricardo Medeiros de Andrade for the post of ombudsman-general of the National Water and Basic Sanitation Agency (ANA) was approved in the Plenary. He is a former director of the regulatory agency.

By 41 votes in favour, 3 against and one abstention, the plenary today approved the appointment of Luciano Lourenço da Silva for the post of director of the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) in the vacancy resulting from the resignation of Alexandre Porto Mendes de Souza.

The Senate approved the appointment of Daniel Meirelles Fernandes Pereira to the board of the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa).

Anatel

Also approved on Thursday was the appointment of Carlos Manuel Baigorri for the position of chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel). In addition to Artur Coimbra de Oliveira as a member of the Anatel Board of Directors and Luciano Godoi Martins as the agency’s ombudsman.

The Plenary also approved the name of doctor Alexandre Fioranelli for the board of the National Agency for Supplementary Health (ANS). There were 36 votes in favor and three against, in addition to two abstentions. The nominee had already been approved on Saturday at the Social Affairs Commission (CAS) in December last year.
