PN bench in Deputies splits in two: a semi-independent “more Wilsonian” current emerges

This Thursday, the members of the bench of Deputies of the National Party could not agree on who should be their coordinator, so a new semi-independent sector -but always raising the white flag- emerged.

The Aire Fresco group, which has a majority in the PN and is led by the secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, decided that Pedro Jisdonian will be the coordinator, but the smaller groups did not agree and expressed their discontent, understanding that it violated a verbal agreement reached in 2020, according to the newspaper The country.

The minority sectors believe that this year it is the deputy Álvaro Viviano (who shows photographs with the 2004 List logo on his Twitter account) who coordinates the caucus.

Thus, Viviano and other deputies split into an “independent” nationalist caucus that feel more identified with Wilsonianism, breaking the unity of the PN in Deputies.

Double-headed bench

Immediately, the newly separated white bench launched a statement to the public in which they confirmed that Álvaro Viviano will be their representative, and that Jisdonian will be “coordinator of the other representatives of the National Party.”

“From now on, the National Party Deputies will be represented in the Interparty Coordination by two Coordinators, representing both parties.”

“This political expression -of the usual tradition in the National Party in previous Legislatures-, will not prevent coexistence and party unity from developing within the framework of collaboration, harmony, trust and loyalty that are inherent to the National Party and essential for the parliamentary support of his government management”, adds the statement.

The split MPs are:

Mario Colman – Cologne
Maria Fajardo-Soriano
Joanna Fort – Thirty-Three
Eduardo Lorenzo – Black River
Nancy Núñez – Paysandú
Javier Radiccioni – Cannelloni
Pablo Viana – Montevideo
Álvaro Viviano – Montevideo
