The Chamber of Senators approved three bills establishing international loans. The first is for US$215 million for the improvement and conservation of Route 2, at the Nanawa – General Bruguez intersection. Another loan request is for US$200 million to finance a support program to strengthen fiscal policy. And finally, a loan request also for US$ 200 million for a “Transformation of the State” program.
Regarding the first bill; “That it approves the loan contract signed between the Republic of Paraguay and CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, on April 18, 2022, for an amount of two hundred million dollars of the United States of America (US$ 200,000. 000), for the financing of the Program to Support the Strengthening of Fiscal Policy and improvement of Public Expenditure, in charge of the Ministry of Finance”, was approved with modifications.
Amado Florentín, national senator, proposed a modification to article two, subparagraph “B” that the resources should be allocated to certifications. He proposed that the MOPC should issue the resources for the payment of certifications, commitments and new works considered important. The document now goes to Deputies.
The second bill is the one that “Approving loan contract 5480/OC-PR, signed between the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Republic of Paraguay, on June 3, 2022, for an amount of up to two hundred million dollars from the United States of America (US$ 200 million), to finance the ‘Support Program for the Transformation of the State’, in charge of the Ministry of Finance (MH)”, was also approved with modifications similar to the previous one.
Finally, the bill “That approves the Loan Contract No. 5108/OC-PR, signed between the Republic of Paraguay and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), for a total amount of up to two hundred and fifteen million dollars from the States States of America (US$ 215,000,000.-), to finance the Project for the Improvement and Conservation of the National Route PY12, Nanawa – General Bruguez cross section and accesses, under the responsibility of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC); and expands the General Budget of the Nation for Fiscal Year 2022, approved by Law No. 6,873 of January 4, 2022” was approved without modifications.
In this way, loans for US$ 615 million go to the Chamber of Deputies for study and consideration.
