Senate approves 12 vacation days for workers from the first year

An addendum was also endorsed to establish that the reform will be applicable to individual or collective labor contracts in force on the date of entry into force of the reform, and “whatever its form or denomination, provided that they are more favorable to the rights of working people”.

The reform consists of modifications to the Articles 76 and 78 of the Federal Labor Law. It establishes that the annual paid vacation period will be doubled – which before the amendments was only six days – and the rules are modified to increase that rest period.

“Workers who have more than one year of service will enjoy an annual period of paid vacation, which in no case may be less than twelve working days.”

Those 12 days -it was approved- will increase “by two working days, up to twenty, for each subsequent year of services.”

In other words, upon reaching five years of work in a company, workers will already be able to enjoy up to 20 days of paid rest.

Workers with six to 10 years of seniority will enjoy 22 days of vacation.

From 11 to 15 years old, workers will have access to 24 days; from 16 to 20 years of work, the period will already be 24 days off. From 16 to 20 years of work, vacations will be 26 days; from 21 to 25 years of seniority, paid vacations will be 28 days.

From 26 to 30 years of work, there will be 30 days off and finally, for 31 to 35 years of seniority in the same job, the rest will be 32 days.

There were five senators who presented the reform initiative but in the discussion all the benches wanted to go up to the podium to support it.

The matter would be postponed until next week, but minutes before the session adjourned, the coordinator of the Morena senators, Ricardo Monreal, asked to address it today.
