A seminar held today (22) in Manaus discussed the impacts of 5G technology in various sectors, such as education, industry and the environment. President Jair Bolsonaro and several ministers attended the event.
“[O Brasil] it is the first country in Latin America with 5G and it is a fantastic thing. Three months ago I was in Piauí and went to see the first 5G farm in Piauí. Productivity increases by almost 20% with this technology,” said the president.
Education Minister Victor Godoy attended the event and hailed the arrival of 5G as a milestone. According to Godoy, the technology will allow the expansion of connectivity for Brazilian students, even in the most distant locations of the country. The ministry’s expectation is that by the end of 2023 all public schools in the country will have access to quality internet.
Also present at the event, the Minister of the Environment, Joaquim Leite, said that the integration, to be promoted by 5G, could also lead to environmental protection. “The most important thing for environmental protection, especially for the Amazon biome, is integration,” he said, referring to investments in infrastructure and also in technologies.
“For example, I can work in the middle of the forest with state-of-the-art technology, which gives me the ability to develop an activity that can be linked to technology or agriculture. You have multiple activities,” she added.
Communications Minister Fábio Faria said the government is changing the country and “making us a technology hub”.
During the meeting, the vice president of the Federation of Industries of the State of Amazonas (Fieam), Nelson Azevedo, said that the implementation of 5G will fill the void of the arrival of technology in the most remote regions.
According to Azevedo, 5G will bring integration and information to these regions, in addition to enabling all sectors to work together. “We will have to learn to deal with the issues that prevent the arrival of connectivity and technological training. We have to be ready to meet the peculiarities of each region as well”.
5G internet was implemented in Brazil on July 5th and the first city to receive it was Brasília. Now, the technology is already working in 22 capitals and the forecast is that it will be released in all capitals of the country by the end of October.
