On January 24, in the City of Buenos Aires, the VII CELAC Summit (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States), for which all preparations are being made.
The assembly, which brings together the main heads of state and government from Latin America and the Caribbean, will take place at the Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel & Convention Center. Argentina will host the CELAC Summitdue to the fact that Alberto Fernández held the pro tempore presidency of the organization during the year 2022.
In this sense, for the CELAC Summit, the Government has ordered the creation of a Unified Security Commandwhich will be in charge of guaranteeing the security of the event and of the leaders who will visit the country during those days.
From the Government, they reported that the “unit will be made up of personnel from the Ministry of Security, the National Directorate of Criminal Intelligence, the Federal Police, the National Gendarmerie, the Naval Prefecture and the Airport Security Police.”
They also specified: “The designated officials will have, within the framework of their functions, decision-making capacity over the personnel and means involved in the security operation.”
The unit will be coordinated by the “Chief of the Argentine Federal Police, General Commissioner Juan Carlos Hernández, who will be in charge of conducting the police forces and security forces affected by the operation, being able to delegate said function to the official designated by him. “.
However, the Minister of Security, Aníbal Fernández, “will be able to invoke the powers directly at the moment in which he may consider it appropriate, as well as convene representatives of the Ministries of Security from other jurisdictions.”
President Lula confirmed his participation in the Summit
After the attempted coup in Brazil, the participation of its president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in the assembly. Nevertheless, In the last hours, the Foreign Ministry of that country confirmed its attendance.
As planned, the president will arrive in the country on January 23, the day he will hold a meeting with President Alberto Fernández, with the purpose of signing various agreements. This will be Lula’s first visit since he took office.
