Security forces have seized 924 firearms so far this year

The security forces have seized, from January to date, 924 firearms, as a result of the different operational actions carried out in the country, mainly in the provinces of Panama, Colon and West Panama.

According to records, this year 562 weapons have been seized in Panama, 102 in the province of Colón, 80 in Panamá Oeste and 51 in Chiriquí, while the rest have been detected during operational actions by the estates in Veraguas, Los Santos, Darién, Coclé, Bocas del Toro, Guna Yala and Herrera.

Among the weapons seized from January to date are 402 pistols, 198 revolvers, 75 shotguns, 69 rifles, 34 rifles, 3 submachine guns and three mini uzi, among others.

The Ministry of Public Security (Minseg), proceeded this Friday with the fourth destruction ceremony of 1,012 firearms, ammunition and suppliers so far in 2022, seized in different operational actions of the Public Force.

This is the twenty-first ceremony that has been held since President Laurentino Cortizo assumed the presidency of the Republic on July 1, 2019.

The Minister of Security, Juan Manuel Pino praised the work of the units of the security forces, who maintain the high commitment to seize as many illegal weapons as possible, in order to protect the life and property of citizens.

In this ceremony, 753 revolvers, 172 pistols, 34 shotguns, 25 pellet guns, nine rifles, nine rifles, six submachine guns, two carbines and two nipples were destroyed.

From July 1, 2019 to date, a total of 20,331 firearms have been destroyed.
