Second Vicar of the Cathedral of Matagalpa: “Nicaragua lives a path with a narrow door”

Father Jader Guido, second vicar of the Matagalpa cathedral, spoke during his homily this Sunday, August 21, that “Nicaragua (…) lives a path with a narrow gate and that is faith and that is the path of the kingdom”.

The religious officiated mass in substitution of Monsignor Roland Alvarez, who is in “home shelter” at the home of his relatives in Managua, by order of the Daniel Ortega regime, after on the 19th of this month the Police stormed the Episcopal Curia and detained him along with priests and lay people who accompanied him.

Basing his homily on the biblical passage of the “narrow gate”, the prelate said that to enter the kingdom of heaven “you have to earn your pass (…) Going through the wide gate everyone can go, the problem is to the When it comes to wanting to enter the kingdom of heaven, not everyone can enter».

«When the door closes many will stay outside, and then until the door closes, then they will start knocking on the door, but the Master’s response will be: “I don’t know you”, because acquaintances are those who have always been at the banquet, they are not the detracted, “he said.

He emphasized that the hope of every Christian is that “we will not be cast out; and if that hope keeps you alive and strong, you have to have courage to move forward, even if the road is narrow».

“Let us strive not to lose faith in the Lord, let us strive not to disperse from the people of God. The People of God is always united; a sheep cannot be dispersed because out there the enemy feeds it faster, so in the name of the Lord let’s move on”, encouraged the prelate.

Ask for the freedom of Monsignor Álvarez

The priest concluded the mass by inviting the Nicaraguan people to continue praying for the freedom of Monsignor Rolando Álvarez and for the priests detained by the Police at the service of the Daniel Ortega regime.

«Let us all unite, let us not lose to live our faith in the temples (…) Let us offer these sacrifices for our bishop. Let us unite as a Church to pray hard in these times », he said.

This Sunday marks more than 48 hours of arbitrary detention against Monsignor Rolando Álvarez, priests and laity. The show of solidarity with the religious has become massive nationally and internationally.

Faced with this deprivation of liberty, Monsignor Silvio Báez expressed his closeness to the Bishop of Matagalpa and demanded his freedom. Earlier, Pope Francis said he was aware of what is happening in Nicaragua and called for “sincere understanding and dialogue.”
