The 2022/23 sunflower campaign in the center and north of the province of Santa Fe it had “the lowest value of the last 12 cycles” in terms of yield, due to the drought, and the 15.1 quintals per hectare on average obtained meant a decline of 24.5% compared to the previous season, reported this Wednesday the Santa Fe Stock Exchange.
A report from the entity’s Center for Studies and Services indicates that “due to the low productivity of the crop, the margins for producers fell” in the harvest that ended in the last days of February.
“The climatic inconveniences generated important conditions to the entire national agricultural campaignnotably harming this crop in the area,” the paper explains.
Decrease
In the center and north of Santa Fe, the planted area was 121,700 hectares, which represented 17.6% above the previous cycle. However, production was 183,375 tons, with a year-on-year decrease of 11.2%. That is, some 23,200 tons less.
The report adds that the rise in costs that producers had to face was not offset by the productivity obtained or by market prices.
“It should be explained that the 15.1 quintals per hectare as the average yield in the region was 24.5% lower than that obtained in the previous campaign and the lowest value of the last twelve cycles“, the text specifies.
In addition, the study maintains that the estimated gross margins of producers in the center-north of Santa Fe showed “average falls that ranged from between 57% and 81% for own fields and from 83% to 288% in the case of leased field.
