The latest report on the consumer basket in Uruguay prepared by Scanntech, ensures that sales in Uruguayan businesses decreased 5% in the accumulated of the year.
The November report shows that the variation in sales continues to be negative, with a reduction of 3% compared to the same month of the previous year.
More fall on the coast
The study analyzes the situation throughout Uruguay and points out that the drop in sales deepens in Salto and Paysandú, where consumption fell by 14%.
Within Montevideo, negative sales levels are also observed in relation to 2021, with a greater reduction in sales in Municipality D (-5%), which includes the Toledo Chico, Manga, Piedras Blancas, Casavalle, Borro, Marconi, Las Acacias, Pérez Castellanos, Villa Española, Unión, Mercado Modelo and Bolívar, Cerrito de la Victoria and Aires Puros.
Analyzing the situation by product family—in the accumulated year—, the report ensures that Personal Care and Cleaning are the ones that show the most negative values in relation to 2021, with falls of 9.5% and 7.7%, respectively . Meanwhile, the “Beverages” sector was the only one with growth in November. The study covers 220 analyzed product categories, divided into four families: Food, Beverages, Personal Care and Cleaning.
The price impact
Regarding the variation in the average price, the data indicates an increase of 10.8% in the set of categories considered in November 2022 compared to the same month in 2021.
Meanwhile, the average ticket on each purchase occasion in the last month was $359, which represents an increase of 2% compared to the same month last year.
