The Ministry of Defense of Russia affirmed today that on Thursday night his troops took control of the Ukrainian town of Soledar, in the eastern region from Donetsk.
“On the night of January 12, the liberation of the city of Soledar was completed, which is important for the successful continuation of offensive operations in the Donetsk direction,” the agency said, according to RT quote.

According to the department headed by Sergei Shoigu, the seizure of the city, where intense fighting has been taking place in recent weeks, will cut the supply routes of the Ukrainian troops in neighboring Bakhmut and surround the kyiv forces in that city.
The Ministry of Defense spokesman reported that it was possible to gain control over Soledar thanks to the “constant” attacks against “the enemy” by aviation, missile troops and artillery.
“They continuously launched concentrated attacks against the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the city, preventing the transfer of reserves and the supply of ammunition, as well as attempts to withdraw the enemy to other defense lines,” Konashenkov said.
The authorities imposed by Russia in the annexed Donetsk region of Ukraine reported the day before “small pockets of resistance” in Soledar.
