Roy Chaderton delivered credentials to the Government of Switzerland

Chaderton, before being appointed ambassador to Bern, was in charge of the “Pedro Gual” Institute of Advanced Diplomatic Studies.

The former ambassador of Venezuela to the Organization of American States (OAS) and former foreign minister, Roy Chaderton, presented his credentials to the Government of Switzerland on Tuesday, April 5, which officially accredits him as ambassador of the legation of our country to that nation. European.

Chaderton was at a ceremony in Bern, Switzerland, where he presented credentials to that country’s president, Ignazio Cassis. Before his appointment, he held the position of general director of the “Pedro Gual” Institute of Advanced Diplomatic Studies, attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The appointment of Roy Chaderton as ambassador to Switzerland was approved by the National Assembly elected in 2020 during an ordinary session held on May 28, 2021, after deputy Victoria Mata proposed the name of the diplomat as a candidate for the post.

In November 2018, the Parliament led by Juan Guaidó asked the Vatican State to reject Chaderton’s appointment as ambassador to the Holy See, saying then that his appointment had not passed through the Legislative Power.

At that time, the president of the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference (CEV) -who held the position at that time- and Archbishop of Maracaibo, Jose Luis Azuaje, warned that the eventual appointment of Roy Chaderton to the Holy See raises doubts in the Vatican authorities because it is considered that the diplomatic work that he would do in that country would be more oriented to solving problems of a single sector, instead of attending to all the Venezuelans.

The today ratified ambassador of Venezuela in Belgium has already represented the country in the missions of Poland, Germany, Belgium and in the Permanent Mission to the United Nations Organization (UN). He was also in charge of the legation of our country in Gabon and Norway, according to the website of the Foreign Ministry.

In 1990 he was appointed Sector General Director of International Policy and in 2001 he was appointed Ambassador to Colombia. From 2002 to 2004 he held the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs; from 2004 to 2007, he was Ambassador of Venezuela in France and later, Ambassador of Venezuela in Mexico (2006-2007).
